I probably shouldn't write this after being up for 24 hours
(long flight home from Savannah followed by struggled attempt at staying
awake to resync to this time zone).
I learned two things while visiting home:
1. "The only way to win at cards is to cheat." - Grandma, 85
"Grandma!!!" - me
"Whaaaaaa--at. Cheating is a skill" - Grandma
2. It's okay to lie. (Dad gives out false phone numbers to companies
like say Dell or Gateway)
All and all, I had a good week. I had biscuits n' gravy twice, and then
on my last day I had (all at one meal mind you) cornbread, biscuits, fried
chicken, fried vidalia onions, mashed potatoes, mac n' cheese, and sweet
tea. Then I had a stomachache which started the aforementioned "geez,
I've been awake for 24 hours now" story. Oh, and I had hushpuppies for
lunch that day, before heading to the beach to get my last sun, er, burn.
:)
I spent lots of time at the pool/beach. Pool & ocean were both at about
80 degrees, air around 86. Humidity surprisingly low. Accents... it's
nice to hear EVERYONE talking like that, oh, and nice to have two country
stations to boot. I read three books - 2 quick mysteries and
Memoirs of a Geisha. This has to be one of the best books I've
ever read -- and then as my roommate said, you flip it over and find
out it was written by a man. Amazing book, amazing man likely.
I sat next to a guy on the plane that was 'from' California, relocated
to HHI, whereas I am in the reverse scenario. We commiserated on how
hard it is to find christians in the bay area (or for him, to find a zen
meditation center in the Bible Belt).
