Quote of the Day

In regards to the FDA dragging its feet approving a noninvasive blood glucose meter (I removed the company name):

"I have seen the results of the XXXXX trials and they are just as accurate at my present *One Touch Ultra" meter. I think we should require the FDA to get stuck 4-8 times per day until they approve this."

Giggle.

Granted, there is a LOT of liability for any medical device company in releasing a product, and better safe than sorry, but man would I love to get my hands on one of these!

Also, there was banter on this same list about the glory of Apple designed devices. I work for Steve Jobs of Apple, so yeah, I'm biased, but they are right. What we were thinking was.... and iPump! A new interface to our pumps that was all sleek, rounded, cool, comfortable. I wish :)

Tragedy strikes home...

So for my christian and religious friends out there, I have some prayer requests.

First, let's give background for the first prayer request:

On this past tuesday night/early wednesday morning, my cousin's apartment building burnt down - in fact, the back half of the building actually collapsed. My cousin Douglas, like many residents, did not have renter's insurance. Please keep him in your prayers - I can't imagine having to buy everything new, down to socks, underwear, eyeglasses, everything....

I'll also use this for a soapbox moment. Since Father's day is around the corner, I'd like to thank my dad for always encouraging me to get renter's insurance. And I'd like to encourage y'all to do it too. My policies over the years were never more than $220/yr, averaging more like $120/yr. Usually, you get a discount on your auto insurance if you use the same company too for having multiple policies. We all feel invulnerable, heck, that's why most of us out here don't have earthquake insurance! But once it happens to you or someone you know, well, hindsight is 20/20. If you don't have it, get it! Almost every friend I've told my cousin's story to doesn't have renter's insurance, so it's not like this is rare. Sometimes your renter's policy will even cover theft of items from your car.

Tragedy #2 is that my grandma is in the hospital. Good news is that they did a catherization and found no blockages as the root cause of her escalating angina pain - so theoretically, no major surgery. I'm praying that it's just a manner of getting her medication rebalanced!

new fishie

Visit Mark's place to see my new fish. He hid in the foliage today, but wonder of wonders discovered that he can SWIM. With 'flare'! (Bettas are kept in teeny lil' bowls for most of their life about the size of a teacup.) He's strutting his stuff in the angry (or alluring a mate) betta kind of way.

I stumbled across a diabetes blog - actually a huge list of diabetes blogs. It kind of surprised me that people could come up with enough to say on a daily/weekly basis about life with diabetes to constitute a blog! How weird!
