"It's like I don't have Diabetes anymore!" Ever since I got an insulin pump, my life has changed for the better. For information on pumps, and another writer's view of life with one, check out "Insulin Pumps" and "Life as a Cyborg." Working out used to be so very difficult when I was on shots. A pump is an athlete's best friend. In the near future I will publish a page on how to handle exercise (mild to strenuous) for pumpers. A pump changes all the rules, so it can be a little intimidating at first, but believe me, it's worth taking the time to "figure it all out." I can actually maintain (on a good day) a blood sugar of 100-140 during strenuous exercise. Lastly, my 'infamous' page, "What Not to Say to Your Children with Diabetes." This list of advice was compiled through conversations on the Insulin Pumpers listserv, and has made it around the world and back again. A bit of the advice was also gleamed from my days at Camp Carolina Trails - a North Carolina ADA camp for children with diabetes. I volunteered as medical staff during the summer of 2000 for their week-long session. (If you enjoy it, check out Insulin Pumpers, a listserv and website that I help admin at http://www.insulin-pumpers.org.)
